The oil pollution of sea area of the north of Taiwan spreads risk assessing and way and examines the special project work program of the construction

Absrtact
Taiwan is surrounded by sea and it is located at one of the main shipping channel in the South-East Asia. International trade is crucial to the economy development of Taiwan. The shipping activity is quite busy around Taiwan. Most of the crude oil is imported from other countries. Any shipping accident may cause serious oil pollution problems. Application of appropriate oil spill software, combining local marine environmental data and possible oil type data in this region, we can construct a dedicated risk assessment and oil spill data base. Oil spill preparation and response can use it as the basic guidelines. This project has achieved five main goals. Establishing oil spill data base for the north of Taiwan including collect local marine environmental data and oil type data and utilize OILMAP to simulate possible route and fate of oil spill in the region. Assessing oil spill risk in the north of Taiwan, including oil spill impact and risk assessment, arrangement of oil spill response equipment, and oil spill case study, if any oil spill event occurs during the process of the project. Maintain and update oil spill data base for the south of Taiwan including collect local marine environmental data and oil type data and utilize OILMAP to simulate possible route and fate of oil spill in the region. Presenting project accomplishments and providing training courses, including burn CDs of the oil spill scenarios and deliver it to the EPA and arrange training courses based on the needs from EPA. The experiences and results of this project can be extended to every coastal region around Taiwan.
